The 16th Alabama was also heavily involved with the 45th Mississippi in the engagement at Triune, TN on 27 Dec. 1862 that allowed the remainder of Bragg's Confederate troops to march on muddy roads to Murefeesboro, TN and prepare for the upcoming Battle of Murfreesboro, aka Stones River. This event at Triune took place during a heavy, blinding storm of rain and hail, and was crucial to delaying Rosecrans' Federal troops. The 16th Alabama and 45th Mississippi were very successful and incurred little loss. This was the first of many engagements and skirmishes to come during the next few days prior to the actual battle.
