Re: 13th Ala travel Montgomery to Virginia

Neither their Record of Events, or any of the usual Regimental histories, provide information on their travel to Virginia.

The route most usually taken was by rail: Montgomery, Atlanta, Dalton, Knoxville, Bristol, TN/Va, Lynchburg, Richmond, see: http://americancivilwar.com/civil_war_map/Confederate_Railroad_Map.jpg

Young Myra Inman of Cleveland, Tenn. recounts many times in her diary of going over to the depot to watch the troops pass through. On July 26, 1861 she records: "Rhoda and Venie went down to Mrs. Stewart's to see troops, two took tea here." The day before, her sister Rhoda, " . . . went over to the depot to see troops."
