Re: BURIAL OF CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS

George --

Both John B. Day of the 38th Alabama (age 16 in 1860) and his father John F. Day are listed on the 1860 census of Clarke County, Ala.

Based on ADAH data plus the service file, John Day (appears on the census under the first name 'Jno') of Conecuh County is probably the conscript assigned to the 36th Alabama Regt. He died on the Pest House at Mobile, Ala., Jan. 7, 1863, thought to be age 27. ADAH information shows him assigned to the 36th Alabama in September 1862.

Including the two from Clarke County, we can account for seven of the other nine John Days who appear on the 1860 census of Alabama. The other two (John J H. Day of Tallapoosa and John Day of Dallas) may have enlisted using their initials rather than the name John.
