I'm sure that Gen. Lee did have some men executed for various legitimate breaches of the military code. All the CS armies and all of the US armies executed men for various crimes against the army and nation. However, Lee was not at Chickamauga; he was with the Army of Northern Virginia in Virginia at the time the Battle of Chickamauga took place. So, rest assured -- your ancestor was not executed for crimes against his own army and nation; he died honorably, facing the enemy, doing his duty, giving "the last full measure of devotion" to his new nation -- the Confederate States of America. If his grave isn't marked and you can, please mark this Southern Patriot and Hero's grave.
