The Alabama in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Civil War Surgeon John M. Hayes

In the aftermath of the Gettysburg battle, Confederate brigade surgeons who were left behind were required to report every evening to the chief surgeon the number of wounded on hand, which were then compiled and forwarded on to the Federal headquarters as a basis for determining rations and medical supplies. On one of these reports for Rodes Division, a "Surgeon Hayes" reported 800 wounded on hand. Could this be Surgeon John M. Hayes of the 26th Alabama?
