Re: Joseph Cryer, Co. D, Russell's Cavalry

Joseph Crier was in Russell's AL Cavalry (aka 4th AL Cavalry). He enlisted at age 32 during the summer of 1862. He was captured in the summer of 1863 at Shelbyville or Manchester, TN, and sent to various Yankee POW Camps. He died of "Rheumatism" (i.e., malnourishment and mistreatment!) at Camp Douglas, IL, in December 1864. You can order the Compiled Military Service Record of this Southern Patriot and hero from the link at the top of this page. Please consider obtaining a VA headstone for this brave Southron! Thanks for your interest in your Confederate "Heritage of Honor"! -- Jim Huffman, Violet Guards, 6th LA Inf.
