The Bobo in the 28th MS Cav. was 28 (coincidentaly) when he joined, so that's not him. There were four Bobo's in the 56th AL -- B.F., F.M., James, and Willis. B.F. did go to MS (Smithfield) to join up, but deserted. (An alternate enlistement site is listed as "Fyett Courthouse" in his 13th Battn. AL Partisan Rangers service record, which unit became the 56th AL.) F.M. joined in MS, too, and was paroled at war's end (i.e., he did not desert). James joined in MS, also, and is listed as being on detached service in MS on the sole card in his Compiled Military Service Record. There is also a Willes Bobo who enlisted in the 13th Battn. at "Fyett," but he also deserted after just a short stint in the unit. It is certainly possible that your Barrum served late in the war and that no records survive to show his service. I do not have access to AL CS Pension Applications, or I would check those for you. You may order all of the above-referenced Compiled Military Service Records from the link at the top of this site. I wish I could have been of more help. -- Jim Huffman, proud descendant of Gallant C. Coker, 36th AL Infantry
