I don't find him on the rolls for the 1st AL Cavalry. However, I do find a J.F. Harry, who appears only late war on a receipt for clothing, indicating a late-war enlistment. I also find three Harvey men, one of whom also only appears on a single, late-war record. One other Harvey man (Ben) died very early in the war, and the other (Nehemiah) was unfit for service in March 1862. The other three Harvey men are Benjamin, Nehemiah, and R.W. Perhaps they are relations of your J.F. "N. Harvey" also appears on a clothing receipt for the 5th AL Cavalry, into which unit the 1st AL Cavalry was consolidated. Again, your J.F. may have been a late-war enlistment into this unit, but no records survive of his service. You can order all of the referenced service records from the link at the top of this page.
