As you look for Blount County pensions, keep in mind two men named William Sherrer are associated with Blount County. The first one, who served in Company E of the 17th Alabama submitted applications from Blount, the last one dated 1896. There's not much information in them. He mentioned he was wounded in the left side at Vicksburg in 1862.

The other William Sherrer served in Company F of the 1st Florida Volunteers. He submitted his pension applications through Calhoun County, but he is buried in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in the north part of Blount County. His wife Martha Jane Vinson died about 1892 and Sherrer moved to Calhoun County where he submitted his applications. When he died (date unknown) he was brought back to Blount where he was buried beside his wife under a CSA monument with no dates.
