I just recently got an email saying that his widow had filed for a pension and stated he'd been killed but it's unknown if she was granted that pension. Also another person sent me an email yesterday about a passage from a book for Col Oates wrote that seem to narrow down the time frame that John S. Parrish went missing. Seems he went missing Dec 1863-Jan of 1864. This was what he had to say about John S. Parrish . So really glad that even the Col didn't think he'd have deserted. Thou not sure why Lt Morris or Capt. Dawson would have listed him as Missing when in all likelihood he'd been killed by union soldiers or men per Col. Oates beats me. *shrugs*

"John S. Parish was 22 years old when enlisted March 5, 1862. He was a very fair soldier, and did his duty until in East Tennessee, along in December or January, 1863-64, he mysteriously disappeared, and as no account whatever was received of him, after waiting some months, his captain mustered him as a 'deserter.' Had he in fact deserted, in all probability something would have been heard of him before now. He had a wife at home, with whom he lived happily, and neither she nor his nearest relatives have ever heard of him. There were many Union men in that country, and I think it more than probable that he was killed by some of them than that he deserted."

This was written by Col. Calvin Oates in his book, "The War between the UNION and the CONFEDERACY." Page 697.

One person was able to help with saying that she'd found a muster roll or paper saying that he might have been killed near Louisville TN or somewhere in East TN as per Col. Oates.
