In Response To: Re: Maj John N. Bishop ()

Louincy Jane Harris Bishop was the daughter of Page Harris who came to what is now Hale Co. in 1819 from the area of Wadesboro, N C. P H became a planter, prospered, & built a house still standing he named "Tanglewood". When Maj. Bishop went to war, he left his wife & family in the care of his father-in-law at Tanglewood. Mrs. Bishop was an expectant mother. By the time the child was born, she had been informed her husband was dead. She named the infant girl Johnnie Nicholene in his honor. She went on to be educated at Dr. Henry Tutwiller's Greene Springs Academy and Liviningston Univ. She later taught there & elsewhere, wrote several books & was a leader in the DAR & UDC. She often refered to herself as a posthumas child of Maj Bishop. I shall attempt of obtain a copy of the pension application to which you mentioned. advise. Many thanks for your help, EMG
