Thanks for replying, that book is a good place to start. In which company of the 44th were your two direct relatives serving when they died at Antietam? That's interesting because Paul Kyzer, my great great granduncle, served with his brother, Levi, in company B. Levi Kyzer died in 1864 at Petersburg. Paul was 22 when he died, Levi was 32. They were both from Bibb County.
