Denise --

The most reliable source for any soldier would be his military service file. The index available to the public lists Braden in this company and regiment.

On June 4, 1861, Braden entered Confederate service with the "Coosa Valley Blues" at Cropwell, St Clair County Ala. On Apr 9, 1865, he surrendered with the Army of Northern Virginia at Appomattox Courthouse Va. At the top of this page appears an advertisment for copies of service files and pension applications. Braden has both.

In addition to the above listed sources, company commanders in Alabama regiments compiled a record of battles and skirmishes for each officer and man who ever belonged to their companies. These records show each company member present or absent in each battle or skirmish though the end of 1864. If they were absent, the reason is noted. These booklets of twelve pages each are found at the ADAH in Montgomery. Copies are also available through Ancestry. The record for Braden shows him as a single man when enlisted, age 27, a resident of Broken Arrow.

Where else would a person look for such information?
