Winter Quarters - 13th Alabama Inf

While looking for information on the 13th Al and their first winter (1861) in camp, I found a Library of Congress site with some pictures of winter camps in Virginia (http://www.loc.gov/pictures/item/cwp2003004572/PP/). While these are not of Yorktown, where the 13th Al was camped during winter months of 61, I wondered if they would be representative of Confederate camps generally?

The pictures show wooden structures, rather than tents, which surprised me a bit (maybe it should not have, but it did). Would most winter quarters have been wooden structures? For all ranks? All years of the war, or just the first years? What would they have done with the camps once spring and summer campaigns started -- were they destroyed, used throughout, etc?

Appreciate any insight anyone can provide. Thanks
