Here is a description from a soldier in the ANV describing his brigade's winter housing.

The enlisted men have huts measuring 16 x 18 feet, chucked with mud and covered with boards. Each hut has two fireplaces and each accommodates 12 men. The officers’ huts each measure 10 x 12 feet and are located on a line twenty to thirty paces in rear of the company quarters.
