I think it is interesting that 2 of the 5 companies were led by and apparently composed of Europeans - specifically Germany and France. Also note their ages which means they could have had previous military experience. It would be interesting to compare the rosters with those of the 16th US Infantry which was discharged in Mobile in 1848 on return from Mexico - or with the 800 that were discharged in Pascagoula from the 1st, 2d, 3d, 4th, and 5th Infantry at the same time. Most of the US Regulars were immigrants and most of the volunteer companies in the War with Mexico were native born.
