Regarding uniforms and arms, remember that one image isn't necessarily representative of an entire company. Also, it's important to know when an image was taken. For example you may have seen an image of a member taken in the winter of 1860-61 wearing a shako and an AVC Federal blue uniform. Uniforms and equipment issued when the 30th and 31st Alabama Regiments organized at Camp Curry and Camp Goldthwaite would have been entirely different. Uniforms and equipment received from Confederate quartermasters in East Tennessee for these two regiments would have been standard issue for June through the end of 1862.
