Re: WILLIAM JAMES WILLIAMS & JOHN RICHARD

Evelyn --

Either you have great memory or great resources.

William J Williams enlisted in the "Clayton Guards", an Alabama Volunteer Corps company from Barbour County. The "Clayton Guards" entered state service on Jan 17, 1861, and was later assigned to the 1st Alabama Regiment at Pensacola. Williams was indeed a musician. He was mustered out of service with his company on Jan. 16, 1862.

W J Williams, age 24 of Barbour County, was rejected by the surgeon on application to join Co E, 1st Battalion, Hilliard's Alabama Legion, July 3, 1862.
