Had a similar experience with a lady whose ancestor had enlisted in the 15th Confederate Cavalry. She produced what she believed was his discharge from Confederate service at the end of the war. It was a discharge from the 1st Florida Cavalry (U.S.). Her ancestor had deserted and joined the Federal command.
