The Alabama Department of Archives and History shows Capt. David C. Hubbard in Company K of Roddey's 4th Cavalry. They used Private R.M. Young's hand written list of Hubbard's Alabama Ranger Company 1861 enlistments to populate the Company K database. Many members of this original company probably did not survive the winter, spring, summer and fall campaigns of 1862 to join Roddey's 4th. By the time this company returned to Alabama, original 3rd Lt. Esom D. Kelly was a captain commanding the company, Hubbard had resigned and lieutenants William P. Wren and Robert Mason Clark were in Union prisons.
