The new marker for the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church is now up. I was by there today as it was the first time I noticed the " Ala Historic Marker" sign on Ala 117 N of Mentone some 10 miles and south of Ider about 5 miles.
This site is the first staging area for McCooK/Stanley after crossing the Tn River with 20,000 troops as ordered by Rosicrans to head off the CSA and lead to the Battle of Chickamauga, 8/29/63. This is just a FYI.
