Your on the right guy ( Silver Smith ) but the obit say's he is 16 in 1847 when he went off to the Mexican war in Col. Benjamin Franklin
Cheatham Tn. regt. so that would make him 1830-31 born Ireland, the census you are looking at 1880 Lawrence Co. Al. says his brother
was born 1830 his obit from the Masonic Lodge in Leighton Alabama say he was born in 1819 Ireland so I you see the census taker
wasn't shooting with both barrels. Did you find any other service records other than the 2nd Alabama INF. Co. E.
