Re: The Alabama Cavalry Battalion of Fort Heiman,

The Tennessee State Library has a type written Hubbard Family Tree that shows David was married to Miss Salley Wiley. A family tree on Ancestry.com shows that he married Sarah Ann (Sallie) Wiley, daughter of planter Yancy Wiley, on 21 Mar 1861 at College Hill, Lafayette County, MS.

Notes on the ancestry family tree include this information about Sallie Wiley:
"Lived in Washington, D.C. when a young lady, in the home of her uncle Jacob Thompson, who was then Secretary of the Interior under President Buchanan. Intimate friend of his niece and housekeeper Miss Harriet Lane (Johnson). Allegedly courted by President Buchanan. Members of the College Church where Yancey Wiley was ruling elder were shocked at her high living, attending the balls and parties in Washington--one notable one for the Prince of Wales--and they threatened to "church" her. Her father responded that that would mean the end of his own support of the church and the furor died. Sallie was chosedn to present the colors to the Lamar Rifles when this local military company received their banner, made by Oxford ladies, in a stirring ceremony on March 9, 1861 attended by the whole town before they marched off to war. Sallie married David Hubbard, a soldier and great musician, who served in the Confederate cavalry and who died soon afterwards. Sallie died at the age of 24 on 11 Jan 1862 of typhoid fever."

Hand written, Special Order 21 in his compiled service record strongly indicates a medical problem:
"The resignation of Capt. David Hubbard Alabama Rangers, tendered upon Surgeons certificate of disability, is accepted and he is honorably discharged the service of the Confederate States.

By Command of Genl. Beauregard

Signed Thomas Jordan
A.A. Genl. "
