The ". . . Alabama Battalion, Major Garvin. . ." as described in Brig. Gen. Lloyd Tilghman's report is also described in Col. Aldolphus Heiman's Fort Henry report as ". . . two companies of the the 3rd Alabama Batallion, Major Garvin . . ." I believe these were infantry companies from O'Neal's 26th Alabama Infantry Regiment under the command of Maj. John S. Garvin.
The ". . . Alabama Battalion of Cavalry . . ." as described in Brig. Gen. Lloyd Tilghman's report is also described in Col. Aldolphus Heiman's Fort Henry report as ". . . two companies of Alabama cavalry, commanded by Captains Hubbard and Houston . . ." They were actually independent companies and not a battalion at all. Hubbard's Houston's and Padget's Spy Company were the defenders of Fort Heiman on 5 and 6 Feb 1862.
