I am researching the 14th Alabama Infantry Regiment. The following is the information I have collected on Gideon Moncus.

Private Gideon Munkers, Company I, is reported wounded in action during the Seven Days Battles around Richmond Virginia, June 26 1862 to July 1, 1862. Muncus, Gideon, Private, Company I (Entry number 1075) enlisted on July 29, 1861 at Lineville, Talladega County, Alabama. On company muster rolls for March and April 1862 he is reported present on daily duty in the QM department. On a Regimental return for April 1862 he is reported on daily duty in the QM Department. Gideon Munkers appears on a report of casualties of the 5th Brigade (Pryor's) as wounded during the Seven Days Battles around Richmond, Virginia in June 1862. He signed a pay voucher dated July 9, 1862 at Richmond, Virginia. Paid by Major John Ambler. On company muster rolls for June through October 1862 he is reported absent on wounded furlough. On company muster rolls for November and December 1862 he is reported absent without leave. On company muster rolls for January and February 1863 he is reported absent without leave. On company muster rolls for March, April, May, June, September, and October 1863 he is reported present. Gideon Muncus was court martialed on General Orders 66 dated May 25, 1863. He signed receipt rolls for clothing through July 1864. Gideon Moncus appears on a register of prisoners of war at Knoxville, Tennessee (Rebel deserters) confined at Knoxville, Tennessee on September 18, 1864. Disposition: Took the oath of allegiance to the United States on September 19, 1864. Sent to Chattanooga, Tennessee on September 24, 1864. Enlisted for the Civil War from Talladega Co., Alabama on 6 Sept 1861 and listed his age at that time as 38. [Born 1826] A muster roll of the same date at Camp Johnston lists him as Gideon Bell Mouncus, Private. He survived the war and was shot and killed in his yard before 1870.
