In September 1862 Thompson resigned his commission as 2nd Lieutenant of Co A due to hepititis. He was taken prisoner in Kentucky while his papers were still in process and released on exchange at Vicksburg MS, Nov 15, 1862. There is no subsequent record of service.

In 1866 T W Thompson appears on the state census of Coffee County. Coffee County probate records may help with a more approximate date of death.
