Re: Mobile Rifles
I have the originals of a set of 1861 - 1862 letters written by a member of the Mobile Rifles, J. Savier Thompson, listed on the roster as A. J. Thompson, to a Lady (Anna Davis) here in Mobile. In his letter of September 26, 1861 to her, he says: "It has been raining all the morning but we are sitting so cosily in our tents playing Cards that it was to us quite a blessing. John Burns and myself against Lizzie Lyons’ sweetheart (Hutchinson) and Charley Clark. After playing all the Morning we came out just two games ahead....." Mr. Thompson was later fatally wounded at the Battle of Seven Pines.
