Re: William Atkinson, Ft Morgan AL

Alan, thanks for replying.
I was mistaken on 2 counts.
William Maldree Atkinson was, I believe a soldier in either Co. E 23rd Ala. Infantry Regiment, or Co. H Ala 2nd Cavalry Regiment -NOT a Georgia soldier. He died in Oct. of 1864 (not 1854-typist error) in Fort Morgan, ALA.
Although he was born in Georgia (1817), married and had 4 children there, he moved to Dale, Alabama sometime after the birth of his daughter, Roxie in 1848, as he is found in the census rolls of that area in both 1850 and 1860. He had 3 more children in Alabama before his death.
I have not found complete records of these companies, but it appears that Co. E may have surrendered at Vicksburg, and Co. H. at Forsythe, NC, so he may not have fought at all at Ft. Morgan.
Still, his death there makes me wonder if he was wounded/injured/became ill and came 'home' to die. Hence my original question as to the records of the hospital there.

I hope this clears up any misunderstanding from my first post.

Becky
