It was at the Battle of Ezra Church, July 28, 1864. The statement reads:

"Just within the first line of intrenchments we found another marked grave with the inscription 'Here lies a hero, the color bearer of the 19th Alabama Regiment, who planted his colors within this intrenchment.'"

This discovery was made by men of the 22nd Alabama who returned to the site to recover the body of their Colonel Ben R. Hart.
