Excellent posts! I was gratified to learn the name of the battle and some of the other circumstances surrounded the color bearer. I once saw another oblique reference to this incident in one of DuBose's books on Alabama History on Google Books, but I can't find it again. Vaughn's report is the only place I've ever seen a name and so far it seems all the Blount County Kings have been accounted for. Mr. Martin's posts mirror my own research on the Blount County men. Thanks for the extra background on the battle!

I understand color bearers were often young boys. Could the gallant color bearer be a young brother of one of the Blount County Kings who were not on the muster rolls? Were color bearers normally regularly enrolled and subject to muster roll call? Are there any other sources that can be reviewed to determine the identity? It would be nice to learn this man's name!
