Thank you for your response. I did locate his service records and discovered several interesting topics to explore. Found his signature for $22 Confederate dollars (two months pay at $11 per) delivered by the quartermaster while he was at the 2nd Alabama Hospital in Richmond on Feb. 4, 1863. The states themselves were responsible for funding and maintaining hospitals for their soldiers near the front. The building still stands in Richmond at the corner of Franklin & 25th:
