A post-war roll reports Gewin being wounded at Chickamauga GA, probably Sept 19, 1863. However, this man received pay on Sept 30, 1863, suggesting he required no medical attention within ten days of this action. Nothing in his service file suggests any other combat-related injury, but records are incomplete. A number of pay records state that he was employed as a laborer apart from regular military duties. Gewin does have a pension application submitted by his widow which may include other information available to her.
The soldier's military service file is indexed under the name Gievan, Evan P. He received a parole with survivors of his regiment at Meridian MS, May 10, 1865, done under the surrender agreement made by Gen Richard Taylor at Citronelle AL, May 4, 1865.
