Miles: Do you have any information about the loss of the flag of the 5th Alabama - or any other Alabama Regiment at Fisher's Hill? I am researching the 23rd Illinois "Mulligan's Irish Brigade." They charged up Ramseur's Hill with Thoburn's Brigade of Crook's 8th Corps. Pvt John Creed captured a flag on the hill (WD #177) and I have been trying, for the last 17 years to ID it. It's not marked. Published and unpublished reports puts the 23rd Illinois and Battle's Brigade on the field at the same time and place. Let me know if I can provide any info. CreedChgo@aol.com
