Imported long arms didn't arrive in numbers until March-April of 1862. Meanwhile by July 1861 the State of Alabama issued all the weapons that had been purchased before the war and captured at Mount Vernon. If I'm not mistaken, the 13th and 14th Alabama Regiments went to Richmond without being armed.

The men of the 15th Alabama were fortunate to have gotten these weapons before going to Virginia.
