Robert H. G. Gaines, Private, (Old) Company C, 6th Regiment Alabama Infantry,* enlisted May 11, 1861 at Clifton, Ala. by Capt. Geo. Lynch for 12 months, sent from Post Hospital, Camp Pickens, Manassas, Va. to General Hospital C. C. H. July 14, 1861, admitted CSA Gen. Hospital, Charlottesville, Va. July 15, 1861, last recorded present on the companies July and August, 1861 muster roll, no further records

Note: He would have been dropped from the rolls subsequently as he does not appear on the next surviving muster roll covering the period Dec. 31, 1863 to June 30, 1864. This could have been for discharge, transfer, capture, desertion, etc. In his case, he was transferred

* This company subsequently became (New) Company I, the Regiment Alabama Infantry

Record of Events, Company I, for the period May 16 to June 30, 1861, stationed at Fairfax Station

"This company is well officered & are orderly, obedient & well behaved. The company has suffered much from measels for the last five weeks which has greatly impaired its strength & efficiency. It is now however improving slowly."
