General order No 29 from the Adjt & Inspector Gen Office which provides for the appointment of an ensign to each Regt of Infantry with the rank, pay and allowance of 1st Lieut having been received at these Head quarters. I have the honor to nominate Private James M. Ables of Co. G, 37th Regt Ala Vol Infty to fill this position.
Private James M. Ables was born in the County of Upson State of Ga. in the year 1842. He was enlisted in Capt W.W. Meadors Company this Regt March 24 1862. He has been color bearer of this Regiment since the 23rd of July and has served well and won the applause of the whole Regiment for gallant conduct on several battle fields.
