Re: Alabama Surgeons at Gettysburg
David,
Greg Coco's, A Vast Sea of Misery, p. 140, cites a couple of sources: A Captain Duncan reported that "the hospitals of (Anderson's) Division were near the house of Adam Butt ... Dr. Miner was in charge" [Surgeon Henry A. Minor, 9th Alabama]. Also, Dr. J.W.C. O'Neal, in one of his medical notebooks, indicated that "Wilcox and Wright's Brigade Hospital was at Butt's Schoolhouse, Minor, Surgeon." Finally, Bailey George McClelen of the 10th Alabama, after being treated by Assistant Surgeon Montgomery, states that he "was hauled that evening to Butts Barn on an ambulance. Here our regiment and brigade wounded quartered some ten days after our army fell back."
