Capt Thomas King Truss organized a company in eastern Jefferson County for service with the Conscript Bureau. This meant patrol of Jefferson and adjacent counties to arrest conscripts and send them to Camp of Instruction. Towards the end of the war this and other other companies in service of the Conscript Bureau were organized as a battalion. They skirmished with Wilson's command on Mar 30-31, 1865, and fought at Ebenezeer Church and Selma on April 1-2, 1865.
Some members of this company came from Blount and St Clair Counties.
