Good Luck in getting that Confederate Pension

George W. Blythe - A former Confederate with Company E 9th Regiment, Alabama Infantry. He was with Hill's Corps; Anderson's Division; Wilcox's Brigade at the Gettysburg campaign. Confederate CMSR's report him enlisting on June 3, 1861 at Decatur, Alabama (located in Morgan County) for three years or the duration of the War with the United States of America and as leaving his company without leave at Sharpsburg, Maryland on June 16, 1863. Federal POW records list him as a prisoner during Gettysburg campaign and being desirous of joining Union Army and being transferred to the 3rd Maryland Cavalry at Fort Delaware and of having special orders from Secretary of War; Edwin M. Stanton for allowing former Confederates to join the Federal Army and told Union authorities he had been conscripted into the Confederate Army and had been born in Tennessee. 3rd Maryland Cavalry CMSR's list him as being with Company E and enlisting on September 18th and mustered into service on September 23, 1863 at age 25 and list his physical description as blue eyes; dark hair; dark complexion; 6' in height and told 3rd Maryland Cavalry authorities he had been born in Monroe County, Tennessee and had been an engineer prior to the War and signed his name as George W. Blythe. 3rd Maryland Cavalry CMSR's report him as deserting on November 3, 1863 near Baltimore, Maryland. (Note: According to the History and roster of Maryland Volunteers, War 1861-5 prepared by under the authority of the General Assembly of Maryland his name is carried in the roster of Company E of the 3rd Maryland Cavalry and listed as deserting on November 3, 1863) (Note: the 1860 census list George W. Blythe as being born in Tennessee and living in Morgan County, Alabama and his occupation was a boatman) (Note: After George Blythe's death his widow, Elizabeth Blythe put this notice in the "Confederate Veteran" magazine: Mrs. Elizabeth Blythe of Nortonville, Ky., widow of George W. Blythe (known as "Wash"), who enlisted in Company E., 9th Alabama Infantry, in June 1861, wishes to locate some members of his command who can help her establish his record, so she may get a pension) GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!
