CSR records list a unit called the "1st Regiment Alabama Mounted Men (State Service)" commanded by Col. Gabriel du Val. I presume this is the same du Val who had been Captain, Company E, 6th Alabama Infantry. Does anyone have any information on the Regiment of Mounted Men?
