Searching for info on my ancestor Col Jeptha Edwards of the 49th Al Inf. Jeptha is buried in Fort Payne, Al... I recently read an artice in a Guntersville newspaper that stated "the History of the 49th is best left unwritten, as many of the officers were drunks and played sick... will post a copy of the article later. Major Street is the one who wrote the article for an old issue of The Advertiser Gleam...in Guntersville. He had nothing but bad things to say about the previous officers..I take offense at what he said about Col Edwards and Mr. Hale.. He did compliment himself greatly.. He stated that he "spent sometime with Edwards at Port Hudson and found him to be "ok"... He went on to praise Rollings and others.. I will post the article soon. Thanks for your info..
