I know this is an old thread, but I just found it and I have to inquire:

My 2nd great grandfather William L Harbin is mentioned on a previous post. He is listed as 2nd lieutenant in this Winston Rough and Ready Volunteers list.

I'm wondering where the notation after each name (regarding the unit these men eventually joined for the war) came from? I believe my William L Harbin to have moved to Marshall county and joined up there. I had never seen any reference to him being a part of the 5th Alabama Cavalry Co. C. Upon looking into this regiment, I cannot find him on a list of its soldiers.

More info on where this info came from would be much appreciated!
