Yes, Major David Moniac was Tate's great Uncle.
His mother was the daughter of David Tate, 1/2 bro to William Weatherford,
"Red Eagle." David resigned his commission in the US Army at the bidding
of David Tate to return to Baldwin CO. Alabama. His father, Sam was drinking
heavily and squandering his estate away. David built his house and raised
thoroughbred horses. After his death in the 2nd Seminole war, My Great-Grandfather
acquired the house and land. The is a photo of the house in the book,WILLIAM
WEATHERFORD, His Country and His People by Lynn Hastie.
I took more photos the other day but I don't know how to post them.
James D. Dreisbach came from CIrcleville, Ohio to Alabama in the early 1830's and married the
daughter of David Tate
He was considered a planter by the 1860's with large land holdings.
He raised a regiment of Alabama troops in the time of secession, then turned them
over to the Confederacy. He was a historian and three term Senator. Tate and his brother,
Charles Henry volunteered from college to serve in the C.S.
Charles Henry, wrote the only report of the last conflict
of the CW in Alabama, "The Battle of Elaskia" He served with Capt. T.C. English,
bro-in-law to George McClellan with the Watts Rangers. He survived the war and died
in 1926. His father wrote Robert E. Lee in 1868 and I have a copy of the letter
R.E. Lee wrote in return.

I can send copies to anyone who likes.
