This reply will probably raise more questions than answers. Here goes:
The 1st Alabama Conscripts was a name applied to men taken to Camp of Instruction No 1 (Camp Watts) at Notasulga AL during the summer of 1862. Most of those still in camp a year later were assembled in companies and assigned to Col Swanson's 61st Alabama Regiment. This regiment served on the Gulf Coast until disloyal elements were discovered. Then the regiment was sent to Virginia and served with Lee's army until the surrender.
