I suspect that Private Deshago [sic] did indeed serve in Captain Clifton’s company of cavalry. Both their files are found in M311, Roll 35

Capt. Arrington’s Co. A, City Troop (Mobile)
Barbiere’s Battalion,** Cavalry A-F

** Probably also called Davenport’s Battalion (as indicated by Paroles)

…..

Captain Jas. M. Clifton, Captain Clifton’s Company, Barbiere’s Battalion, Alabama Cavalry (Local Defense),* filed a requisition for forage September 16, 1864 at Montgomery, as commanding Capt. Clifton’s Company, Supporting Force, Bureau of Conscripts

Capt. Jas. M. Clifton’s Company of Cav. was mustered into the Confederate States Service to serve under Brig. Gen’l. Pillow for the time - On Conscript Duty,

Signed a Forage Requisition August 12, 1863 at Gadschen [sp?], Ala.

* Organized in 1863 for State service but not accepted - turned over to C. S. service by authority of Gen. Pillow and served in Cherokee Co., Ala. enforcing Conscript law, etc.

In Jan. 65 was recommended to be assigned (with five other unattached Cos. of Ala. Cav.) to Armistead’s Brig. in oder to increase the Battn. of four Co.s, Known as “Lewis’ Battn” Ala. Cav. - Maj. W. V. Harrell - to a Regt.

?arole Pris. records show that the proposed Regt. was not formed.
No muster rolls
