What flags did the Regimental color guard carry (the Regimental battle flag and a National Flag or a state flag)?

How many men were usually in the Regimental color guard? Was the Regimental color guard generally a Sergeant and two Corporals? (I expect this structure may have varied with the states or regiments.)

I found a record that a Regimental adjutant submitted a requisition for a “stand of colors”. What would constitute a stand of colors?

Did each company carry a guidon?

Did the structure of the color guard change later in the war?
