Confederate Memorial Day Report

This past Sunday, April 24th, 2016, we celebrated Confederate Memorial Day at Soldier's Rest (The Confederate Cemetery) in Vicksburg.
We did a series of Bio's of Civil War related people buried in the Civilian Portion of the Huge Cemetery which completely encompasses "Soldier's Rest."
Two of the Men we Honored.
John Francis Lauderdale who grew up in Alabama, migrated to Arkansas about 1960, Served in the Army of Northern Virginia, returned to Alabama, married on soon moved on to Vicksburg, His Bio was presented by a descendant living in the area.
Major William Thomas Walthall who migrated to Alabama early, newspaper man, operatd the Instruct[on School at Tallageda, moved to Mississippi, helped Jefferson Davis write "The Rise & Fall," was in Memphis and involved in the Horrible Yellow Fever Epidemic of 1878, gave a series of lectures across the South to raise funds for the construction of the Semmes Monument in Mobile (Including Vicksburg, Two nights at the Opera House, and held over for another night at Magnolia Hall. Cost of admission 50 Cents. The name of the lecture, "The Sword of the Sea.), was appointed Ambassador to British Guina (Spell) in South America, returned to Vicksburg and is buried in his wife's family plot.
