Dear Mr. Parker:

This is a reply to your letter of 9 June 1953, herewith returned.

A careful search of the Confederate military records is the Army archives has been made and nothing has been found concerning any service rendered by Richard Andrew Jackson Harris or R. A. J. Harris.

The records show that one Richard Harris, private, musician, and Colonel’s Orderly, Company I, 15th Regiment Alabama Infantry, Confederate States Army, enlisted 17 March 1864 at Greenville, East Tennessee, also shown as Troy, Alabama and Bulls Gap, Tennessee. The company muster roll for September and October 1864, latest on file, show him present.

He was surrendered by General Robert E. Lee, Confederate States Army, at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, 9 April 1865.

Sincerely yours,

WM. E. Bergin, Major General, USA The Adjutant Generals
