Union pensions

Hello all: My direct ancestor, Ephraim Ledford, first served from Murray county, Georgia CSA. After deserting, he joined the Union army from Bradley county, Tennessee in the 5th Tenn. Mounted Cavalry, Co F. My question concerns his Union pension application index card which I found on Ancestry. Ephraim first applied from Ga. in what appears to be 1887. I am assuming this was denied since there is no Certificate number listed. Is this correct? His second card has both he and his wife's name listed. Ephraim has both an application and certificate number for date of filing May 1890 from Alabama. Am I correct in that he received his pension? Also, his wife has both an app. and cert. number for her date of filing in April 1893,(also Ala) which I assume was approved. If I order Ephraim's Union pension file, will I also obtain his wife's, or will I have to order that separately. I am anxious to order these, and am hoping you folks could answer my questions. Thanks very much. Ira
