Can someone provide a pay scale for the Confederate army for December 1861? I found a payment document dated January 3, 1862, to pay an infantry regiment the sum of $16,355 for the month of December 1861. Knowing the regimental strength was between 700 and 1000 based upon other records, I want to estimate the strength of the regiment based on the amount paid. I realize a lot of variables are involved with this estimate. I am just trying to create a rough estimate.
